Coffee Varieties and History Facts of the Coffee Culture

                                            Rich History of Coffee Discovery

Second only to oil, coffee is the most sought after legally exchanged commodity in the world. We love it, we crave it, and we drink it in enormous quantities. It is estimated that 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed each day worldwide. New Yorkers are said to consume seven times the amount of any other U.S. city, which is why it may seem like there is a Starbucks on every edge of Manhattan. Famed French writer and philosopher Voltaire was believed to have drank 40 – 50 cups per day.

Coffee is a daily #commodity in the lives of millions of people around the globe. Where exactly did this caffeinated delicacy begin?

As with some other foods that have lingered for centuries, coffee’s beginnings are developed in mystery and lore. There folklore Ethiopian legend that coffee was discovered by a goat herder named Kaldi, who discovered his goats frolicking and full of life after eating the red fruit of the coffee bush. Kaldi sampled the fruit for himself and had a similar energy. After seeing their odd behavior, a monk took some of the fruit back to other monks; they all stayed awake and alert all night. From then, they would have been reacting to coffee’s spurge of caffeine. This stimulant from nature also serves as an inborn plant pesticide, protecting the coffee bean fruit from pest that ate on the bean fruit.

According to a folklore wrote down in 1671, coffee was first found by the 9th-century Ethiopian goat-herder Kaldi.

The history of coffee goes back to centuries of old oral folklore in present day Ethiopia, though neither where coffee was first cultivated nor direct evidence of its consumption previous to the 15th century have been discovered. Sufi monasteries in Yemen decided to use coffee as an aid to concentration during meditational prayers.

Coffee was finally traded and sought to the New World by the British in the mid-17th century. Coffee houses were popular, but it wasn't until the Boston Party in 1773 that America's #coffee culture was changed forever: the revolt against King George III switch from tea to coffee among their colonists.

Now Coffee has developed into many flavors and varieties. I have provided a link if your interested in trying some of the new tropical #kona #coffee varieties and methods developed in Hawaii.

The coffee berry borer a tiny black beetle, just a couple millimeters' in length. The females chew holes into coffee berries and lay their eggs in the seeds. The bits that we know as “coffee beans”. The larvae feed the seeds when they come out of their egg cycle, desolating the coffee bean.

Coffee grounds are already recommended as a natural home remedy to remove slugs and snails. the coffee grounds repel slugs, Hollingsworth discovered, also a caffeine solution more effective, he says: "Slugs change direction after contacting the [caffeinated soil]."

Selecting the right soil for the coffee bean weather conditions

Coffee plants work better with a well-draining acidic soil—around 6.5 is perfect acidity —so tossing in a little sphagnum peat moss to potting soil to increase the pH levels

Coffee plants need bright, but indirect, lighting. This means that they should be around or near a window but not directly in the window by the way. Coffee plants nether less cannot handle temperatures below freezing and will have trouble doing good in temperatures consistently below 65 degrees. So particular climates are best for outdoors.

You should water the Coffee plant once a week all year round. In the freezing months it could be less water for your coffee plant. Giving less generous amounts of water, rather than a big dunk at a moment. The Coffee plant has trouble completely absorbing that large amount within one week.

Most generally the plants that prefer coffee grounds are roses, blueberries, azaleas, carrots, radishes, rhododendrons, cabbage, hydrangeas,  lilies, and hollies. You'll want to avoid using coffee grounds on plants like tomatoes, Although Coffee grounds have about 2% nitrogen and certain amounts of phosphorus and potassium though are good for the growth in tomato plants. As by adding some coffee grounds into the soil at the bottom of tomato plants you're bring those nutrients that the tomato plants need to grow.

For example, you can ad a dash of fresh coffee grounds all around acid-loving plants as azaleas, hydrangeas, blueberries, and lilies. A lot of vegetables prefer slightly acidic soil, though tomatoes usually don't  need the addition of coffee grounds.

What plants do not like coffee grounds?

generally, the coffee grounds acidity is too much to be used direct on soil, acid-loving plants like blueberries, azaleas and hollies. Coffee grounds stunt the development of some plants, as in asparagus fern, geranium, Chinese mustard and Italian ryegrass.
